Emtek Products was set in Business, California, in 1981. Originally a producer of door hardware components for other manufacturers, the company began making luxury residential lock collections for distribution in the Los Angeles area from the mid-1980s, gradually expanding its distribution range to incorporate all of Canada and the United States. The company was acquired in 1999 from ASSA ABLOY, a conglomerate that was Swedish, but hardware and Emtek locks are still assembled in California.

Both Baldwin and Emtek produce many different residential lock products, such as key-in-lock hardware collections, deadbolts and digital keyless locks. Emtek provides 17 finish options although not all of finishes are available on all lock places; a polished brass finish isn’t on a lock handles, for example.
